Special Guest to Speak at Raleigh Bootcamp

July 15, 2019 (Raleigh) Voter Integrity Project is proud to announce that Winston Liu, a former prisoner of the Chinese Communist Party will be our featured lunchtime speaker at the July 24 Voter Integrity Bootcamp in Raleigh (tickets are available here).

“I recently heard Winston describe the persecution he suffered because of his deeply held faith,” said Jay DeLancy, Director of VIP, “and we want to help others learn the reality of living under a communism.”

Mr. Liu, now a Canadian citizen, is a computer-control engineer working in a company in North Carolina under a temporary work visa.

“His story is so compelling that we will encourage our bootcamp attendees to record his speech and share it with their families,” DeLancy said. “Some guests may want to get a ticket just for the lunch period.”

The early-bird admission price for the bootcamp is $20 through Saturday, July 17. At that point, it rises to $25. The fee helps cover the food and speaker costs. (Click here for a more detailed itinerary of the July 24 bootcamp.)

In addition to DeLancy’s teaching time, North Carolina’s Trump Election Day Operations (EDO) Director, Heather Ford Esq., will host a break-out session covering campaign finance investigations.

Mr. Liu was born in China. Since 1998, he has been practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual self-cultivation discipline rooted in ancient Buddhist and Taoist philosophies. Because he refused to renounce his faith, the Chinese communist regime put him in detention and prison four times between 1999 and 2003. As a prisoner of conscience, he endured mental and physical torture.

He fled to Canada in 2005 and obtained refugee status as a Falun Gong practitioner protected by the Canadian government. He moved to the United States in 2012 and has lived here ever since.

Mr. Liu received master’s degrees in engineering from Tsinghua University, a premier university in China, and from the University of Calgary, in Canada.

As a public speaker, Mr. Liu tells audiences his personal story of being persecuted in China. He explains why the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has targeted Falun Gong, and what implications this persecution has for the West.

He describes how Falun Gong practitioners launched the largest freedom-information campaign in modern Chinese history in response to the persecution. His insights about the CCP can help audiences understand what is unfolding in the United States today.

The Chinese authorities initially celebrated Falun Gong for its health benefits and moral teachings. In the 1990s, the practice grew to attract more than 70 million people, outnumbering the Communist Party membership at the time. Fearing that Falun Gong’s popularity and independence would win the hearts and minds of the people, the CCP launched a nationwide campaign to eradicate Falun Gong in July 1999. The CCP continues to repress and abuse this community to this day.
