House Approves Three (no longer four) Ways to Steal Elections

[Correction: While Multipartisan Assistance Teams are still a major vulnerability, a Senate committee debate on June 2, 2020, has convinced us that the Legislature has mitigated this problem adequately. MATs will continue to be a major vulnerability, but it is up to the county-level party chairs to aggressively recruit and train MAT members.]

June 1, 2020 (Raleigh) The dismal House Bill 1169 flew through North Carolina’s House chamber last Thursday that legalizes four ways to steal elections… but, as they say with a smile, “at least it prevents Vote By Mail!”

Yes, VBM would push nearly 7 million ballots to North Carolina voters, including 994,000 who either died, moved away, or fraudulently registered. And yes, VBM’s failure is widely known. Consider the California man who received 83 ballots addressed to different voters at his 3-bedroom, 2-bath house, or the Michigan man who received three absentee ballot requests to different voters.

But didn’t anybody wonder why gleeful Democrats only offered token opposition? Maybe they knew what we know: This “bipartisan” measure provides four ways to steal an election:

  1. An online portal allowing anybody to request ballots with just a little identify-theft data, like the 22 million identities stolen from US government databases in 2015.
  2. Undesignated “free money,” so counties can send postage-paid absentee ballot envelopes that may legally be mailed without a postmark. Then, when election officials suddenly “find” thousands of un-dated absentee ballots, some federal judge, like Leigh Martin May, will nullify state law and order them all counted.
  3. Diminished absentee ballot requirement back to only one witness; but as a face-saving prize, the witness has the option of fabricating a name and address.

Noting in HB 1169 prevents absentee ballot return envelopes from having “stamps” like these.

We’ll never know how the House GOP Leadership managed to force its members to hold hands and jump off the cliff together, but by the time we were able to offer some effective amendments (viewable by clicking here), the fix was in.

three-day weekend. Next, Speaker Timothy Moore and Rep David Lewis shot the bill through two committees the following Wednesday and scheduled the bill’s second reading for Thursday


“Great!” We though.with just an “objection to third reading,” we could help lawmakers understand the trap doors rigged into the bill; but instead, our efforts were dismissed for being, in the words of one annoyed member, “a day late and a dollar short.”

The 116-3 vote included no Republican opposition.

The entire train wreck illustrated two unique forms of party discipline.

First, no Republican cracked under the pressure and objected to blowing off the third reading. That act required unanimous consent which Speaker Moore somehow achieved.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader, Darren Jackson, faced a tougher challenge: He had to make sure his members suppressed their laughter.

The good news is that the Senate can easily prevent this disaster… unless they too get fooled!
